How to Calculate Age from Date of Birth
Your age is the amount of calendar time that has passed between your date of birth and a selected date. An exact age calculation counts completed years first, followed by completed months and the remaining days.
Simply subtracting your birth year from the current year isn’t always accurate. You also need to check whether your birthday has already occurred in the selected year.
For example, someone born on 15 August 1990 is 36 years old on 10 October 2026 because their birthday has already passed that year.
Age Calculation Formula
For a quick estimate of your age in completed years:
Age in years = Reference year − Birth year
If your birthday hasn’t occurred yet in the reference year, subtract 1 from the result.
To calculate your exact age in years, months, and days, you must also account for different month lengths and leap years.
